Team progress update
12th July 2009 - 6:30 AM (Day 1)
The group reached Chandigarh on 12th July 2009 at 4:00 AM. It took them 2 hours to get their bike on Road. Paras also joined them in the morning at Chandigarh station.
They hired a Tavera from Chadigarh for the entire trip. The Scorpio that team was supposed to take from Manali, backed off. The Driver of the Scorpio is not willing to go to Leh.
Team started from Chandigarh at 6:30. Stopped at Bilaspur (on the NH21) for breakfast at around 10:00AM. Manali is 200 KM from Bilaspur. Target to reach Manali before evening. The Team will be staying at a place named "Basist" -3 Km from Manali.
12:22 PM Update: - Just got a call from Anis. they reached the Sundar nagar (Entered HP.). Stop for Lunch. Expecting to reach Manali by 4:00 PM. Manali is just 100 KM more from this place.
Weather is nice. Anis can wear his Riding Jacket. that the way we measure the heat :-). Roads are marvelous. Not too crowded, few stretches have tracks.
Tomorrow team will move toward Dharcha; altitude 1100ft. distance from Manali 149KM.
12th July 2009 - 18:30 (Day 1)
The Team Eastern Bulls safely reached Manali at 18:00 hours. Everyone in the team is doing fine. Enjoying the ride.
They are staying at a hotel at "Basist" 3 km from Manali.
Paras is driving well , like P1 (prodipto) and P2 (santosh). they got a P3.
Tomorrow they will move toward Dharcha.
Dharcha is located at altitude of 11000 foot.
13th July 2009 17:45 (Day 2)
The Team EB Ladakh 2009, reached "Tandi" at 15:30 hours. This is the famous point from where, "Next fuel station is 365 KM".
Now they are at Keylong, stopped for the night.
Group has done a good 100 KM, from Manali during the day. They crossed Rothang Pass (13000 Ft.) and reached Keylong at 17:00 hours. Keylong is at 8000 Ft altitudes. The team decided to stay at Keylong for the night.
The 42 KM road of Rothang Pass was very tough due to dirt and mud. Some of the riders also experienced breathing problem due to high altitude. After coming down to Keylong they all are fine. While crossing Rothang, their average speed was 20 KMPH. After Rothang, max speed they could achieve is 50KMPH in few stretch of the path.
Anis expressed his words, about the Tandi's famous sign- “Next fuel station is 365 KM.” Per Anis "Ek bachor ei sign ta chobbi te dekhechi, nijer chokhe dakhar ananda alada." (I have been seeing this sign on picture for last one year. The pleasure of viewing this place in own eyes is different".) He has very emotional while expressing this words.
Team did the ride like a group today. Every one is in good health and enjoying the ride in full. In Keylong, the weather is very pleasant. They are just wearing T-shirts. However, the Rothang was very cold.
Tomorrow they will proceed further toward Leh.
14th July 2009 9:45 AM - (Day 3)
Team proceeding from Keylong to Dharcha. 37 KM traget for the day. Will be out of communication for 2 days
16/07/2009- 22:00PM (Day 5)
The group reached the LEH.
After 3 silent days, we at home received the call from the group announcing the news of reaching LEH.
On 14th July morning team left Keylang. Team reached Darcha cover around 30+ km. Team proceed further but due to heavy rain and bad weather stoped after 20 KM from Darcha. Stayed at night on the spot. Could not get the name of the place, but per the description "there was only one tent on the Road side to stay".
On 15th July (Day 4), team proceed further. The high altitude sickness effected almost all the team member. It got harder to ride for the entire team. one after one rider was feeling dizziness, vomiting and breathing problem. With that conditions team reached the Sarchu. Covering 30 KM more in the Day 4. Team decided to stay at Sarchu to acclimatize. At night it become more unbearable, as the temperature falls to -10 degree Celsius.
On Day 5 16th July 2009 , morning team members felt better and geared up for riding to the target Leh. covering 272KM in the Day 5 , with many hurdles, of bad road , dizziness and less oxygen reached LEH at 18:45 hours. Leh is better place as it in situated at a Valley. After reaching Leh boys felt better. Also the communication with them is possible.
Plan for Day 6- 17th July 2009 :- Team will be riding to the ultimate destination. - Khardung - La. HIGHEST MOTOR-ABLE ROAD IN THE WORLD. At a altitude of 18380 foot.
Enjoy. and Ride
